Five years together in government, and in the end: RNI out

The new majority was built without the old ally, and with parties from the opposition.

The news

On 12 October 2026, Fatima Ezzahra El Mansouri made official an alliance of the PAM, Istiqlal, USFP and PPS, with 207 seats out of 395. The USFP and PPS had been in opposition.

The RNI stayed out of the majority, despite having led the government for five years with the PAM and Istiqlal. Those three parties would have totalled 228 seats.

During the debate on the government programme, RNI MP Yassine Akacha questioned the added value of a government continuing earlier reforms.

The commentary

Satirical opinion from the editors

In our politics, marriage lasts one term, and divorce is called "reading the moment". Five years at the same table, and on results day everyone remembers they never liked the tagine.

Those in opposition became ministers, and the party that led the government now asks what's new. Balwara isn't just in the speeches, it's in the alliances too.
