The finance minister, who runs the football federation: football isn't politics
An answer, mid-budget debate, to a question about the academy of a club chaired by a minister.
The news
During the debate on the 2027 finance bill, opposition MPs criticised the planned football academy of Union Sportive Yacoub El Mansour, chaired by Youth, Culture and Sports Minister Mehdi Bensaid, arguing that it blurs government duties and football management.
Fouzi Lekjaa, Minister of Economy and Finance and president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, replied that developing football cannot depend on political management or on party or government calculations, and that the academy serves neither an MP nor a minister.
According to Le360, citing an unnamed source, Bensaid intends to step down as club president.
The answer makes sense, but that's a lot of hats on one head.
The commentary
Satirical opinion from the editorsTo sum up the scene: the finance minister answers on behalf of the federation president, the federation president agrees with the finance minister, and the meeting ends unanimously.
And if the minister does leave the club, the conclusion is clear: there was no problem, and we are now solving it.
