90 spoiled ballots to elect the Speaker: is voting that hard?

MPs voted, and nearly one ballot in four didn't count.

The news

Ahmed Touizi (PAM) was elected Speaker of the House of Representatives on 13 October 2026 with 220 votes, against 59 for Driss El Azami El Idrissi (PJD).

Of 369 ballots, 90 were declared void, according to Finances News.

The commentary

Satirical opinion from the editors

When a citizen's ballot is spoiled, we're told they need voter education. Here we're talking about 90 ballots from the people who write the election laws.

A spoiled ballot can of course be a political statement. We just hope they say it out loud one day, because 90 unexplained ballots make up the largest silent group in the House.

The result is clear. The message of the 90 ballots, much less so.
